Nick Gebhart is interested in observing what he sees and then converting it onto the two dimensional surface using paint and brush. Through painting he pushes the technical aspects by creating a sense of reality. Nick uses photographs as reference and reinterprets that reality in his work. His main objective in every painting is to grab the viewer's attention immediately. He does this through contrast in value and perspective.
Using people as his subject matter, Nick portrays a certain feeling that relates to the awkward perspective and asymmetrical composition. The people in his paintings are the focal point. The viewer is invited into the figures' personal space. Because of the immediate attraction to the painting, the viewer has a chance to get caught in the moment. Human interaction is just as important in his paintings as it is in real life. He puts his figures in natural environments and allows the viewer to relate to the person in the painting. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and his Master of Fine Arts in Painting at New York Academy of Art in New York City. Nick currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
